The clock ticks down on the scoreboard and the Generals are behind. It’s the Homecoming game against Tigard and expectations are high. The stands are fi lled with Grant supporters and varsity football coach Diallo Lewis stands on the sidelines, his hands on his head in frustration as the seconds tick down to half time. When the buzzer sounds, his hands drop to his sides and he stands tall and fi erce, waiting for his players to surround him. “In here guys,” He shouts, and his voice booms across the fi eld. His team hustles to obey, clustering about him as they head for the locker room, grim looks on their faces. This halftime talk isn’t going to be sugarcoated.

Meet the Measures

Year after year, Oregonians have been voting on ballot measures that have shaped and sculpted our state constitution and laws since 1902. Some of the most important and crucial ballot measures are voted on when the Presidential election takes place every four years. More often then not, initiatives crop up annually and allow voters to pass new laws every year. Many of these initiatives are very important and create laws that are placed in state’s constitutions depending on the initiative. Certain ballot measures have received nationwide attention and are voted on in other states, such as Measure 36, which defined marriage as being between a man and a woman. This year, in Oregon, there are 12 measures to vote on with seven being statutory changes. Here are the measures on the 2008 ballot to be voted on Nov. 4.

If you haven’t noticed Tristan Irving around Grant yet, you will soon. His hi-top fade hair cut, heavy black-rimmed yellow-tinted glasses, and bright white smile easily set him apart from the crowd. However, as a recent transfer, Irving has plans to bring more than just a unique vintage style to Grant. An avid follower of the early Black Panther ideals, he hopes to organize a group of “Black Generals” like him who believe in the philosophies of racial equality the group initially set ablaze in the 1960s.

Librarian and teachers clash over ID cards

Forgot your ID card? Good luck trying to check out a book from the school library. The library does not accept just an ID number when checking out a book. Since many students lose their ID cards, or forget to bring them to school, a problem has arisen when it comes to checking out textbooks or novels.
