Leftover food clogs the staircases and
trash floods out of garbage bins in and around the school. How often
do you think about the mess you make? Who do you think cleans it up?
What do you think Grant High School would look like if no one was
working hard to keep our facilities in good repair and our halls,
classrooms and restrooms mopped up? We should be thankful we won't
have to find that out ourselves; our custodians are under
contract for the next few years. But there aren't nearly as
many workers as we've had in years past. And we might give some
thought to making their jobs a little easier. |

It is now known across the nation that
Portland, Ore., has the best senior pranks. As almost everyone has
heard by now, Lincoln seniors pulled a prank that took local news
stations by storm, and even made it to CNN's 24-hour cable news
channel. The students sent out a letter on PPS letterhead to over 600
Lincoln homes, asking parents to open their homes to students after
prom so they could have a safe place to be sexually active and drink.
This sounds ridiculous, but it really
is creative. |

J-Young, music is no part time hobby; quite the contrary, it defines
his lifestyle and, if all goes according to plan, will soon become
the basis of his career. Stressing the importance of music in his
life, Cordeta explains that, "music, to me, is what basketball
is to LeBron James." Clearly, Cordetta's music is not to
be taken lightly; put simply, he's one serious dude. |

"Language is how you define
yourself as a human being, and if you can't express that, you
can't express yourself," said Jacoa Thomas after she and
Alauno Porter taught "Ebonics Jeopardy," to Lewis and
Clark graduate students on March 5, 2008, quizzing their knowledge of
linguistic elements in Ebonics. The graduate students, who are
working to become language arts teachers, seemed eager to have the
Grant students in their midst. |

As the spring season continues on
Grant's outdoor courts, the men's tennis team hopes to
regroup after a disappointing loss to Wilson High School. The senior
leaders that front the Generals' top twelve are confident that they
will be able to rebound, and lead their young team to a league
championship.
Senior John Block, the Generals' number
one singles varsity player, took the loss especially personally. |
