The Golden Compass (Dec 7): No, not a highly appraised
family heirloom on Antique Road Show, this is the first film
adaptation in a trilogy of fantasy novels. I had the misfortune of
buying tickets on Fandango for opening day in an attempt to avoid
waiting in line for a sold out show, but was confronted with a longer
line in front of the freakin' Fandango machine than the line
where the rational people buy their tickets without a one dollar
service charge.

What would you do for sex? Would you start a war? Would you stop
one?
Set against the backdrop of the Peloponnesian War fought between
Athens and Sparta, Lysistrata takes on a new context in today's
conflicts. Meant to demonstrate the ways in which women can

Film Review: Gone Baby Gone
Dark, gritty and heartbreaking, Gone Baby Gone is Ben Affleck's
directing debut. Not surprisingly, he casts his little brother,
Casey, in the lead role. The film features a strong supporting cast,
which includes Morgan Freeman, Amy Ryan, and Ed Harris. Although not
in the same stratosphere of stardom as his brother, Casey Affleck has
a few film credits to his name as well. He doesn't take this
opportunity for granted and shines in his role as Patrick Kenzie, a
private detective for hire.

"There's no sugar coating here. My music is real,"
says Emanuel Ford.
Ford is a talented musician rising up in Portland's hip-hop
scene. He's toured Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, and has
plans to open with J-Belz for Jim Jones. He's also a senior at
Grant.
Ford first started rapping in the second grade and was recording
by middle school, cutting his own demos in the sixth grade. |
