There's a one-minute stretch in the
Radiohead song "Bodysnatchers" that is absolutely killing
me right now. The song itself is a blast of fuzzed-out guitars and
tortured vocals that finds guitarists Jonny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien
cutting loose like they haven't in 10 years. But two minutes
in, there is a shift in dynamics. The song doesn't lose pace,
but acoustic guitars take over for electric, and Thom Yorke asks,
"Has the light gone out for you?/Because the light's gone
out for me," and I can't tell whether he sounds like
someone who has lost all hope or someone for whom hope is the only
thing left. |

State of Mind, the hip hop quartet from Grant High
School, rocked Berbati's Pan Oct. 6, to say the least. Their
half-hour set started off the night for Sandpeople's CD release
party, who were celebrating the launch of their sophomore album,
Honest Racket.

Two weeks ago, Radiohead's highly
anticipated seventh studio album was scheduled for release in 2008.
The band's contract with EMI expired after 2003's Hail
to the Thief. They have not signed a new one since then. But on
Sunday, Sept. 30, guitarist Jonny Greenwood posted a brief message on
the band's website: "The new album is finished, and it's
coming out in 10 days. We've called it In Rainbows. Love
from us all." Shocking, right?
