The Oscars? The Oscars are like a thoroughly planned vacation, because no matter how many details one tries to finagle, the natives, the rampant diseases and plagues, or the other trigger happy, fake tanned tourists, will always find a way to ruin what should of been an amazing trip. This was truer than ever at last Sunday’s 79th annual Academy Awards, where great films such as “Babel” and “Pan’s Labyrinth” were denied real awards (yeah best make-up and score don’t really count).

Movie Review - "Because I Said So"

For Valentine’s Day, it’s no wonder that romantic comedies come by the barrelful in order to get more people to buy chocolates and roses for their loved ones. “Because I Said So” is yet another run of the mill romantic comedy, and although it does use a few clichés and has an unbelievably predictable ending, it is luckily one of those stereotypical films that you actually enjoy. The movie chronicles the lives of sisters Milly (Mandy Moore), Maggie (Lauren Graham), and Mae (Piper Perabo), and their over-bearing and over-meddling mother Daphne (Diane Keaton). While both Maggie and Mae are married off within the first five minutes of the film, Daphne is left to worry about her third daughter Milly, who never seems to be able to find Mr. Right. Of course Milly is clumsy, laughs like a hyena when she’s nervous, and doesn’t know when to shut up while on a date, but looks impeccable in every shot. Apparently having gorgeous hair and cooking are her only positive attributes.
