Making a new club is hard. It requires a confi dence that what you have to offer is something your peers would accept and
desire. Teenagers can be extremely fi ckle, but this year eight new clubs have been founded and are trying to survive their own
freshman gauntlet.
Black Student Union
The Black Student Union (BSU) meets Wednesday at lunch in room 212.
This club emphasizes community service and hopes to help change the statistics
of pre-dominantly white advanced placement classes. The club feels that black
students would be better prepared to excel in academics if they have a network
of support.
Hands and Feet
A former club (Generals for Christ) has also changed its name and become
the Hands and Feet Club, (Jesus asked his disciples to be his hands and feet)
meeting Tuesdays during lunch in room 233. The club is going to perform acts
of community service while imparting a Christian sense of good work.
Crew Club
The Crew Club meets Tuesdays at lunch in S-5 and is focused on crewing.
Crewing is the act of working on a yacht or other similarly sized boat relying on
wind power as a source of movement. Anyone interested in an athletic outlet but
not wanting to join a sports team is welcome.
Communist Club
The Communist Club is currently
meeting in P-2, Wednesdays at lunch. Two
goals of the club are dispelling common
anti-Communist myths and serving the
community. One of their early ideals for
a fundraiser is raising 16 dollars and then
distributing a packet with a penny to each
of Grant’s 1600 students in order to both
inform the school about Communist doctrine
and show them a real-life example
of spreading wealth.
Salsa Club
Tuesdays during lunch in room 112
the Salsa Club is teaching the fundamental
steps of Salsa to dedicated novices.
Senior Kelsey Frost and Junior Beatrix
Zenger have been doing salsa for the
past few years and have decided to
share their knowledge with the Grant
student body.
Manga Makers Club
Manga makers are welcome to join
the Manga Makers club which meets
Thursdays at lunch in room 101. Manga
is a Japanese style of graphic novels
drawn in a format originating in Japan
during the 1900’s. A community of aspiring
manga makers pursuing their artistic
impulses and focused on helping others
with their manga.
Italian Club
Italian Club meets every other Wednesday during lunch
in room 126. Anyone interested in celebrating Italian culture
and learning more about the customs and cuisine of Italy are
welcome.
