Yesterday in a Blazer team practice, rookie Greg Oden was severely hurt when the loose rim of a hoop fell directly on his spine causing nerve and tissue damage. Oden is currently in stable condition at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, but doctors say he will loose function in both his legs permanently. Despite this setback, Oden remains optimistic about playing next season claiming his rehabilitation will be a, “no hassle process.” Blazers general manager Kevin Prichard has decided to adopt a “wait and see” approach to Oden’s injury stating, “what does permanent nerve damage really mean anyway?” Prichard is hoping a daily acupuncture and jogging routine will help alleviate Oden’s condition, but doctors say there is literally a zero percent chance that will work. Teammate Travis Outlaw adds, “he’s a tough guy. If he can get a 16-10 against Toronto, he can beat paralysis.”
