Grant's favorite webmaster, William Prahl tells all in shocking interview with Grantonian webmaster William PrahlYou may have noticed William Prahl in the halls of Grant, immediately noteworthy for his incredible fashion sense. His trenchcoat and polar fleece have become familiar sights at Grant. But Prahl is graduating this year, and the loss will be deeply mourned by the many lives that he has personally touched. Said senior Taylor Bailey, “William Prahl is the best-dressed person at Grant. No, on second thought, he’s the best-dressed person I can think of. I know that I would want to dress like William Prahl, but I just don’t think I could pull that look off.”Prahl is perhaps best known for his high-profile position as the webmaster of the Grantonian newspaper, responsible for uploading the articles from the print newspaper to the digital version.“I don’t know what I’m going to do without him,” said Kennedy Sheldon, a Grant junior who regularly reads the Grantonian online. Sheldon is just one of the many, many Grant students who prefer to get their news from the online version of their school’s newspaper. Prahl also maintains his own website, stinja.com, on which he posted a daily webcomic for nearly two years.“I really enjoyed doing the comic, but I eventually had to stop to spend more time on other things,” said Prahl. While this was a blow to Prahl’s many fans, he has kept them entertained by beginning and abandoning a seemingly endless succession of projects. Said Prahl, “I used to fence, but I thought it was more fun to start things and never finish them.”Prahl, who has the same birthday as Tupac, also cares about the environment. “I walk to school, instead of driving, every day.” Living fully four blocks from Grant, Prahl believes that this is a “major personal hardship, undertaken for the good of the planet.”Obviously the star player on the Grant chess team, Prahl plays fifth board on the junior varsity team. Prahl’s success is a great indicator for the success of the JV team as a whole. In addition, Prahl won an unprecedented record of zero out of five games at State this year.“Sure, I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t win any games at State this year, but I think that the important thing is that I made a showing of exactly who and how good I was at State. If I run into those guys again, they’ll think twice about playing me.”Prahl’s main academic focus right now is biology. His qualification for the Biology Olympiad semi-finals was met with widespread recognition and applause. But far from being one-dimensional, Prahl is also very fond of language. He takes Japanese at Grant. “I’d estimate that I speak about ten languages. Besides English, Japanese, Spanish, German, Occitan, Basque, Tochempta, Python, BASIC, Scheme, and Assembly, I have at least a passing familiarity with another five. And then I’ve invented at least three languages.”Prahl likes to collect things of dubious utility. He estimates that he has 34000 tablespoons of legos in his room (138 gallons), and that his collection of Dungeons & Dragons (“well, technically, they aren’t all D&D”) books outweighs him two to one.Prahl is well known for his gourmet and healthy palette. Every day for lunch, for the past twelve years, he has had a peanut butter and honey sandwich on white bread. Prahl, as a general rule, eats only foods which are unadulterated by other kinds of food. He eats his hamburgers plain and dry, and often. Said Prahl, “it’s like I keep kosher, but there are fewer things that I eat.” In addition to being able to eat in a wide variety of places, Prahl also commends this diet’s health value. |
